Child Anxiety:Does Money Make You Anxious ?
Being able to earn a living is a subject that I know has been the cause of stress in my home many times in the last 25 years.
I am sure that I am not alone in this feeling. Along with all the other factors that can be panicky and fearful in our lives it is disturbing to know that just having a place to live, food to eat and clothes to wear can be the cause of arguments and strife in a home that should be a safe and happy environment.I ask myself just how much is enough to make an individual happy with their financial situation? The conclusion is of course that it all depends on the individual.
When I was a child I was not taught about bank accounts or anything to do with finances.
There were never any discussions concerning money and I can not remember getting an allowance.
I feel this led to child anxiety regarding money.
Material things can be the reason so many people work long hours and miss out on being with their family.
Even though money is necessary in our culture, I know that it can have many positive and negative aspects too.
The money is not the problem.
Perhaps it is the way a person deals with it or the lack of it.
Anxiety takes many forms as we know and society has done a great deal to contribute to anxiety because of the emphasis on money.
All the media bombards us with what they say we need and because we are impressionable we begin to believe it.
Even as young children who watch Saturday morning cartoons we see all the products that are advertised during the viewing.
Anxiety sets in for the children when they repeatedly ask for the objects they have seen in the ads and are not able to convince their caregivers or parents to buy for them.
Here child anxiety rears up again.
Then the anxiety is transferred to the adults when we have to say no to the children’s requests.
We all want what is best for ourselves and our family so there are many ways anxiety can sneak into our minds everyday.
If we have strong convictions and a healthy emotional background we can make good decisions regarding our finances and then reduce anxiety.
If we have problems with money we can get financial counselling and learn budgeting techniques for example.
Believing in the decisions we make is another anxiety buster.
Teaching and showing our children the meaning of money and respecting what it can and cannot do for you is a real way to aid in lessening the anxiety associated with it when we become adults.
The way that children hear us speak about money is another way that anxiety can creep into the subconscious and therefore reappear as a problem in later years.
Money seems like such a simple thing and relatively harmless and it is until someone puts an unreasonable emphasis on it.
We all have our own needs and wants.
Making a list of these two things can help us identify perhaps what it is about money that is causing anxiety for us.
Let us think about how we can help ourselves to lessen the anxiety concerning money.
You may think that it is easy for me to say because I have enough money to live and have all that I want and need.
That is not the case for me as I said previously.
I work at finding methods to eliminate anxiety of all sorts for myself personally and I do know that money can be both positive and negative depending on the relationship I have with it.

Hello Tired but happy:
Enjoyed reading the blogs and found alot to think about.
There are so many people out in the world who are suffering with depression ,anxiety, panic and phobias.
I have been depressed since I was a child and I now see how depression has led me to many less than ideal decisions.
As an adult now I can put some of the resulting events caused by depression to rest and look back on them sometimes without being swept away into another round of depression.
This has taken time and personal work using programs and techniques along with therapy on and off during my adult years. Keep moving forward and believe in yourself. I tell myself everyday that I am a good person and I think personal affirmations and journaling are a saving grace in the crusade to end anxiety.
