THE METHOD OF AFFIRMATION

Once you have established what you want to release you just need to repeat a simple phrase to yourself several times a day.  If you can manage to release the need to feel in control, to feel security, and to feel acceptance you are well on your way.  After you can accomplish this simple feat you’ll notice that you are thinking clearer, less burdened, and that you can handle what you need to accomplish.

Here is a great way to create your affirmations things helpful to you. Here’s how it works:

You start off the affirmation with “Today I choose…” then fill in an ideal or habit that you want to condition into your thinking. Then repeat it often during the course of the day, especially when you are about to make a decision or engage in a behavior that is directly related to what you intend to create. Let it act as a compass to guide you so that you keep moving in a straight line directly towards your goals regardless of what others may do.

So, for example, you might say, “Today I choose to be thin.” Here are some sample times when you may want to repeat this to yourself:

·When you make meal plans

·When you shop for groceries. Repeating this goal may make you put down that extra pudding cup.

·When you think you have to watch some television to unwind (instead of exercising).

·As I’m listening to a weight oriented audio book or studying which exercise video you will buy

·As you go to work. Time driving is a great time for affirmation!

As you look for a snack, this may help you choose a carrot over a brownie.

·When I even think about getting a second plate at the buffet when you are actually full.

I’m sure there are all kinds of other situations where you can repeat it. What this does is set the direction of your thought to focus on activities that lead to a thin body and a healthier you. Consciously choosing thoughts rather than simply walking around unconscious of thoughts and actions helps think through the consequences of actions in advance so that you can make better choices.

Sometimes for variety, I may replace the word thin with other variations, such as:

·Today I choose to exercise.

·Today I choose to be healthier.

·Today I choose to change myself.

·Today I choose to spend my time wisely.

·Today I choose to live better

You get the idea.

This formula also works for far more than weight loss. Let’s say you need to improve your health or to quit smoking. How about:

·Today I choose to be healthy.

·Today I choose to be smoke free.

This affirmation acts as a pattern interrupt to help you think through your action to make certain it is consistent with the choice you say you are making. This is why it is important to literally say the words, not just think them. Improve the quality of your thoughts and your choices.

They also help you make better choices, because they are almost always going to be positive. Who in their right mind would say?

·Today I choose to be poor.

·Today I choose to be fat.

·Today I choose to be unhappy.

·Today I choose to be rude and obnoxious.

But…how many of us say these very things to ourselves by our negative speaking, self-image, and thoughts–our choices? Make yourself resolve to do to live positive. Here’s a great thing about choice: as you make better choices, you have the added benefit of rejecting poor or mediocre choices without any extra effort. Added on top of each other, it won’t be long before you begin to see massive improvements in your life.
Using positive affirmations shows you how to enhance your life and create a positive life by simply changing thinking patterns.  Affirmations are one of the greatest tools available to the human mind.

They not only enable you to change the circumstances and situations in your life, they also help you rid yourself of those depressing negative feelings and thoughts. Affirmations are often misunderstood by society; you cannot use affirmations to affect others actions or thoughts.  They are simple a tool to help you change the way you look at yourself and the world around you.

Most people are not even aware of their own thinking patterns.  They don’t realize that they are thinking negatively about themselves, the future, the mistakes they have made, or that they are setting themselves up for failure.

Most do not realize they are having these thoughts; they get depressed and are unsuccessful at life and they cannot understand why they aren’t being successful.  After you have finished reading this book you’ll be well equipped to protect yourself against these negative feelings, and damaging thoughts

Affirmations are most successful when they are used against specific behaviors or goals.  Just waking up and saying “I’m going to have a better day today” isn’t going to get you anywhere.  They are much more effective when they are used to target specific areas of your life.

For example perhaps you are seeking to improve a relationship and you are hoping they will understand you better and want to talk out your issues.  You can use affirmations to help your relationship.  You can say “I’m going to find ways to get you to understand me better” “I’m going to say the right things to help you listen to me”.

When you take on a mindset like this you should notice two things happening.  The first is that you are using your affirmation to send messages to the subconscious part of your mind, which will enable you to get the outcome you are looking for.  Secondly with your new thought processes you will act in a way that will help improve the situation.

“She had recently turned 35 and was single. She complained that there were no good men and that she couldn’t find the right person. But she wanted to be in love and wanted to be with someone. She feared being alone. After only four weeks of using affirmations she met a man.  Suddenly she felt like walking away. It would never work she told herself. It’s too good to be true. All her negative thinking came rushing back. Things worked out and the couple is still together and planning for the future.”

The young woman in this example used positive thinking to change the way she looked at love and men.  She was able to control her negative thoughts and feelings and discover a great relationship in the making.  Her negative thoughts almost cost her the relationship when she was worried but she used her affirmations to regain control and set her life on the right track.

You should always keep your affirmations as short and as simple as possible.  The shorter the affirmation the better since you will need to remember them so you can repeat them throughout the day.  They just need to reflect what you need to happen and what you can change to bring out that ideal situation.

“An old man of eighty-seven who was killed in an accident. The autopsy revealed that he had been suffering from several diseases, any one of which could have killed him many years previously. His widow was asked the secret of his long life. She replied simply: ‘I don’t really know; except that, every night before he went to sleep, he said, “I’ll be better tomorrow”. That man displayed a positive attitude to life.”
This affirmation was short and to the point; a simple phase consisting of only four words.  However with just these four words this man enhanced his life to the point where he could shrug off several debilitating diseases.  This is the true power of affirmations and positive thinking.

Creating affirmations can be a very difficult thing.  You absolutely have to focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.  You should be envisioning the outcome you wish to have. It’ll take a substantial amount of work at the beginning but after you have been using affirmations for a while you’ll notice that you do them without a thought.
There are many different methods you can use to enforce the affirmations into your thought process.  Repeating your affirmations over and over to yourself throughout the day is quite effective.  Another successful technique is to record your affirmations onto a small recorder and listen to them while driving to work or even while sleeping.

Using a recording device can be dangerous however; most people will tire of hearing the same old message over and over and will delete the tape or simply stop listening to it, negating all of the positive effects of Affirmations.

The most crucial period during affirmations isn’t the beginning.  It’s when your affirmations begin to bore you.  They don’t seem to be having any effect at all and saying the same thing over and over again is starting to tire on you.  This is the most crucial stage of affirmation thinking.

This is the time when your affirmations are starting to enter into your subconscious thoughts.  This is also the time when you need to be repeating your affirmations the most to ensure that they take hold and because your subconscious is almost ready to change the way you think about your daily life.

“A woman in her mid thirties began using affirmations in her daily life.  She had no work, could not even afford to eat.  She wanted to complete a screenplay she was working on. She had almost given up on affirmations , repeating the same phase over and over again was boring her and she was thinking they were not helping her or improving her way of life when she got her job and just recently signed a deal to develop her screenplay.”

The woman in this example almost fell prey to the greatest cause of affirmation failure.  She was ready to stop using her affirmations, she thought they weren’t getting her anywhere and she was bored with repeating the same phase over and over again.  With a little preservation she realized her goals and is heading towards her dream of being a screen play writer.

Affirmations are an amazing tool that helps you mould your life into what you want it to be.  However they need to be used properly and on a regular basis if you wish to see any success from them.  Repeating the same phases numerous times may seem annoying and boring but they help keep the negative thoughts driven from your mind.  Affirmations allow you to gain full control over your mind to completely eliminate negative thinking once and for all.

Affirmations can help you succeed in any of your goals in life.  Whether they are love, career, family, or goal driven.  Using positive thinking and affirmations gain you mastery over your mind and give you a confidence level that you will not believe.

There is work to be done with Affirmations but I believe it is worth the effort.

We will finish with this technique in Affirmations Part 2
